dotAdmin version 2.0 Coming Soon

We are currently hard at work on Version 2.0 of the dotAdmin Web Site Management software. With the majority of the coding now complete, most features are now in the testing stage, and we expect to be rolling the new version out to existing users during late March / early April 2005.

Changes in dotAdmin v2.0 include a complete rewrite of the way documents are created, stored in and delivered from the dotAdmin content database, and a whole new product management system which allows for far more complex products to be created and sold through your dotAdmin site.

XML "docType" Document Creation and Storage System

dotAdmin documents are now stored in an XML format, which is controlled by a configurable XML "docType" to allow different types of document to be created and stored. dotAdmin v2.0 does away with the previous "C_Var" system for creation of custom data fields, and introduces a system whereby multiple different document types can be created with different data fields. This powerful new system allows for the complete customisation of the "document properties" edit interfaces, and extensive customisation of the way content is delivered and navigated.

The dotAdmin code controlling document delivery, editing and storage has been completely rewritten.

Accelerated Content Delivery

In rewriting the content delivery object, we have been able to make substantial gains in the page delivery speed. on large sites

Improved Content Templating

All documents can now use a selectable inner template within the outer template to display the content. This allows for site admins to run the whole site using one or two main templates, and a selection of inner templates which change the inner layout.

"Product Model" System Separating Sale Items From Stock Items

The dotAdmin online store now uses a sophisticated "product model" system to link products available for sale to the stock keeping units required to fulfill the order. This allows for a single sale item to be linked with multiple SKU's (for example, when bundling two items in a special offer multipack).

Product Variations System

The dotAdmin online store software now allows online shoppers to select options which modify a standard sale item, and (optionally) its price. For example, an item of clothing which is available in multiple sizes and colours can be offered as single sale item with variation selectors for colour and size. The price displayed in the shopping cart will be determined by the options which the user selected.

Complex products which use the variations system can be quickly and easily created within dotAdmin.

Enhanced Site Search

The dotAdmin internal site search has been completely rewritten in response to user feedback. The new version includes natural language parsing in the form of pluralisation, and an improved relevance weighting algorithm which prioritises documents which contain keywords in the title, or which are zone indexes. Testing indicates that this new algorithm returns vastly improved search results, and improves site usability.
